Abstract: The abolishment of apartheid in 1960 s did not bring racism in America to an end.International immigration,inter-racial marriage, "racial whiteness" and changes in political-economical status all contribute to the increasingly complex ethnic problems in postcivil rights era. "Whiteness" and "Afro-centralism" have exhibited an antagonism between the white and the black. The emerging middle-class blacks result in internal antithesis between materialism and culturalism, leading to internal split in the groups.Multiculturalism admits ethnic diversity but reduces the group differences to individual differences, replacing material conflicts into cultural conflicts.Consequently the ethnic conflicts and racism were concealed.Based on individualism attribute inequality to personal reason without consideration of the structural effects of race, the ethnic policies have intensified the " natural" inferiority of the minority groups,as the paradox of American "anti-racism of racism".
