Abstract: An electronically controlled fuel injection system was put forward to replace the traditional one for the 4190 medium speed marine diesel engine. The model of electronically controlled fuel injection system was built up based on the AMESim software to determine a better combination of cam profile, nozzle hole diameter, pump plunger diameter and high pressure fuel pipe length.Actual fuel injection flow and rate can be obtained by the IFR600 measurement device. The effects of the location of cam working part for fuel supply, injector protrusion, nozzle hole diameter and fuel injection timing on fuel consumption and emission were found out through engine bench test. The test results show that the location of cam working part for fuel supply affects fuel injection flow and rate a lot,and the consequent fuel consumption and emission, and that the small injector protrusion is adopted, the higher fuel consumption results, and the smaller nozzle hole diameter is used, the larger fuel supply advance angle for the lowest fuel consumption is required. With the nozzle hole diameter decreasing the fuel injection pressure increases, which helps improve fuel economy and NOxemission, but makes fuel injection duration extend and post combustion increase, this is harmful to fuel economy and CO emission.
