Abstract: There were both joys and sorrows in the 2014 Latin America situation, with fewer joys than sorrows in the economy, more joys than sorrows in politics,an equal sorrow/joy situation in society, and joy and no sorrow in diplomacy. There were fewer joys than sorrows in the economy.According to the December 2014 forecast of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean,Latin America grew by just 1.1% economically, the slowest rate for five years.Analyzing the causes of this low growth, the agency concluded that the "China factor" could not be ignored. In its view, with China becoming the major trade partner of many Latin American nations, the slowdown of China's economic growth had weakened her demand for primary products, which in turn saw a tumbling in the prices of many global primary products, severely damaging the Latin American nations.
