Abstract: Effects of heat treatments on microstructure and mechanical properties of Ti-steel explosive clad plates were investigated by optical microscopy(OM), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), X-ray diffraction(XRD), auger electronic spectrum(AES) and shear test. The Ti-steel explosive clad plates were subjected to a heat treatment process in the temperature range of 650~950 oC for 30~120 min. The results show that the heat treatment process leads to a great enhancement of diffusion and microstructural transformation. During the heat treatment process, a large amount of Ti-Fe intermetallics(Fe2Ti/Fe Ti) along with some Ti C distributing continuously are formed at diffusion reaction layer. With the treatment temperature increasing, the thickness of diffusion layer increases and the shear strength decreases, whose functional relationship was proposed with the heat temperature as well as the holding time according to the experimental data.
