Abstract: Cuckoo search algorithm is a metaheuristic swarm intelligence technique,which is combined with the cuckoo’s nest parasitism and Lévy flights mode.The principle and procedure flowchart of cuckoo search algorithm were illustrated in details. The research status of relative improved algorithms and their application were discussed.Moreover,in terms of advantages, disadvantages and application fields,cuckoo search algorithm,particle swarm optimization,ant colony optimization and bee colony algorithm were analyzed and compared.Finally,the existing problems in current research were summarized and some future research directions to address the problems were proposed.
