Abstract: The paper divides the development process of Journal of Hunan Agricultural University ( Natural Science Edition ) into 5 stages, including founding period, chaos period in the Great Cultural Revolution, recovery period, development period and rapid devel-opment period. It analyzes papers and highly cited papers in each period, focuses on analyzing highly cited papers in 1979-2012 from aspects of cited frequency, subjects, authors and their institutions. At last, the paper puts forward some countermeasures from aspects of publishing content, publication form and publishing system, so as to provide reference for the journal ’s further development.
