Abstract: OBJECTIVE: To investigate the use of the Chinese herbal decoction pieces in Bethune International Peace Hospital( hereinafter referred to as "our hospital") so as to promote clinical rational use of drugs. METHODS:Hospital information management system was employed for collecting data of outpatient & inpatient prescriptions of the Chinese herbal decoction pieces from January 2012 to October 2014 with consumtion quantity of Chinese herbal decoction pieces and the top 50 Chinese herbal decoction pieces ranked by consumption sum and consumption quantity analyzed. RESULTS: The consumption quanity of Chinese herbal decoction pieces in our hospital showed an increasing trend,topping the first three places in descending order were Radix Astragali,poria cocos and Salvia miltiorrhiza in2012,Radix Astragali,poria cocos and Spatholobus Suberectus in 2013,Radix Astragali,poria cocos and coloured malt in 2014. CONCLUSIONS: The use of Chinese herbal decoction pieces in our hospital should have definite direction,however,in clnical use,problems including nonstandard prescription writing or nonstandard writing of drug names,and unclear habitat and processing method of the herbal drugs were noted. The concerned authorities should strengthen standardized manamgent on traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions so as to ensure patients’ safe andeffective use of drug,reduce the waste of medical resources and promote clinical rational use of Chinese herbal decoction pieces.
