Abstract: The load capacity of two types of unconventional compressor,i.e.,with splittered blade and tandem blade,is an important problem.Based on Schweitzer’s empirical relationship on the load capacity of cascades,an assessment on load capacity of these two types of unconventional compressor configuration was obtained along with conventional one. This was done under a series of assumptions that include simplifying the splittered blade and tandem blade as two rows of equivalent blades, idealizing the flow field as incompressible flow and ignoring the influence of Reynolds number and boundary layer thickness. The results show that the ascending order in load capacity of the three types of compressor configurations is conventional blade, splittered blade and tandem blade with the same total aspect ratio.Otherwise, the load capacity of conventional blade may be better than the other two types,if the constraints on the total aspect ratio are removed. However, this does not prevent the splittered blade and tandem blade as important choices for compressors.
