Effect of Nano Particles Clustering on the Melting Behavior

Abstract: The nanoparticles are easily to aggregate because of high surface energy and nonsaturability of single particle.The formation of clustering is self-sustainable,limits the application of nanomaterials.The clustering effect on nanoparticle melting behavior is investigated via molecular dynamics simulations in this paper.Results indicate that a decrease of specific surface area,due to the "neck" formation between particles,leads a rising of melting point for the cluster.Particles of smaller size probably melt at a higher temperature comparing with larger one,because smaller particles might aggregate together to form one big size cubic nanoparticle.The clustering phenomena of Ag nanoparticles are observed by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscope.The melting points of clustering are measured by thermal analyzer(DSC-TG) and show a good agreement with simulated results.
