Characterization and Photocatalytic Removal of Sulfur Dioxide by Cu or Mn Doped TiO2 Coating on Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes

Abstract: MWCNTs/TiO2,MWCNTs/Cu-TiO2 and MWCNTs/Mn-TiO2 were synthesized by a sol-gel method.Transmission Electron Microscope(TEM),X-ray diffraction,Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectrom(EDX) and UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy(DRS) were performed to characterize the photocatalysts.The results showed MWCNTs/Cu-TiO2 and MWCNTs/Mn-TiO2consisted mainly of anatase,followed by a reduction of crystalline sizes.Moreover,the absorption edge of MWCNTs/TiO2 extended toward long-wavelength region.The strong absorption in the UV and visible region were observed on 10%MWCNTs/Cu-TiO2 and 0.5%MWCNTs/Mn-TiO2.The removal efficiency of SO2 was evaluated in a fixed-bed photocatalytic reactor.MWCNTs/TiO2 performed well on SO2 removal compared to bare TiO2.Moreover,71%and 69%of SO2 removal were achieved on10%MWCNTs/Cu-TiO2 and 0.5%MWCNTs/Mn-TiO2.
