Concentration Variation of Air Negative Ion in Parks of Xi’an City

Abstract: The daily and monthly variations of the negative ions in the air on different land surface in the parks of Xi’an City were monitored for one year by using KEC-900 air ion detector. The monitoring and analysis showed that the ion concentrations in all the parks varied significantly. The concentrations of positive and negative ions in the air in the parks of Xi’an were 190 ~ 2 760 ion/cm3 and 270 ~ 2 070 ion/cm3, respectively, and the average concentrations were 635 ion/cm3 and 597 ion/cm3, respectively. The daily variations of negative ions in the air on different land surfaces were also considerable, rising from morning to noon and then decreasing from noon to afternoon in each day.The concentration of negative ions in grass land and waters rose rapidly from 6:00 and reached the maximum at12:00. The concentration of negative ions on harden ground slowly rose at 6:00 and reached the maximum at 14:00.The concentrations of negative ions in the air on three kinds of land surfaces had a similar declining trend from 14:00to 20:00. The month average concentrations of positive and negative ions in the air in the parks of Xi’an City were relatively low from December to April, but were high in the other months. The air ion concentrations in February was the minimum while the positive ion concentration was 1 080 ion/cm3 in October.
