Abstract: Objective To investigate the usage of antibiotics in outpatient and emergency department of Tianjin 4th Centre Hospital from March, 2013 to February, 2014, and to promote the rational use of antibiotics. Methods The usage of antibiotics in outpatient and emergency department of Tianjin 4th Centre Hospital from March, 2013 to February, 2014 was summarized retrospectively, and consumption sum, frequency of drug use(DDDs), drug combination, department distribution, classification, and administration route was analyzed statistically. And the irrational use of antibiotics was analyzed. Results The utilization ratio of antibiotics was 16.96%. The highest utilization ratio of antibiotics was penicillins(25.05%). Most of antibiotic prescriptions were the single medication, and the rate was 83.13%. Restricted antimicrobial drugs(76.27%) were in the majority. Oral and intravenous administration of antibiotics were 50.49% and 49.51%. Unqualified prescriptions were 367, accounted for 4.41%. Conclusion The utilization of antibiotics is basically rational in outpatient and emergency department of Tianjin 4th Centre Hospital from March, 2013 to February, 2014, but there is still some unreasonable situation, which needs further efforts to strengthen the management.
