Efficiency Optimization Design of Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Machines Using Magnetic Equivalent Circuit

Abstract: This paper presents the magnetic equivalent circuit method for fast calculating the magnetic and performance of double rotors, single stator module axial flux permanent magnet machines.Sensitive parameters effects on the machine loss and efficiency are discussed, including stator outer diameter, permanent magnet axial height, air gap length, etc. A 30 k W axial flux permanent magnet machine with yokeless and segment armature is optimally designed, and further the machine air-gap and stator teeth flux density, induction electromotive force are calculated by using the proposed method.The MEC model takes into account the magnetic saturation, armature reaction, leakage flux and the relative motion, and the calculation results are compared with finite element method to verify the correctness of the proposed model and the effectiveness of the optimization design process.
