Abstract: A numerical method for computing aerodynamic characteristics of civil aircrafts in engine thrust reverse condition was presented. The low-speed, incompressible N-S equations were uncoupled and solved with the SIMPLE algorithm. The finite volume method was used to discretize the equations, and the SIP method was adopted to solve the discretized equations iteratively. The turbulence model was a standard k-ε one. The aerodynamic characteristics of an exemplary civil aircraft equiped with two engine thrust reverse configurations respectively were computed at 2 velocities of 30m/s and 70m/s. Reverse streamline distributions and their effects on the aircraft were analyzed. The engine IDC index of each condition was yielded. Effects of velocity variation on the flowfield were summarized. The study shows that configuration II was better than configuration I in a general design view, providing a good base for design and analysis of engine reverse technology of civil aircrafts.
