Many literatures show that aluminum alloys have complex strain rate effects, and the current understanding of the strain rate effects of different aluminum alloys is still not enough. The strain rate effects of aluminum alloys were reviewed and summarized in this paper. The mechanical and theoretical mechanisms related to strain rate effects of aluminum alloys were explained at the microscopic level. In addition, the development and improvement of the Johnson-Cook constitutive models applied to aluminum alloys, were briefly summarized.
