Abstract: The basic Glowworm Swarm Optimization (GSO)algorithm is weak at evacuation speed andsmoothness of path in crowd evacuation simulation.Therefore,an improved algorithm named NGSO was proposedby introducing the global optimal solution,which is derived from the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO)algorithm,into the location updating process in the GSO algorithm.The experimental results reveal that the NGSOalgorithm performs well both in accuracy and convergence in solving basic optimization problems.The NGSOalgorithm was applied to the crowd evacuation simulation in 3D simulation system in order to exhibit its practicalvalue.The simulation results show that the NGSO algorithm can implement path planning from the initial position tothe target safe area.Compared with the GSO algorithm and PSO algorithm,the NGSO algorithm improves the speedof evacuation and the smoothness and stability of the evacuation path.
