Abstract: Objective To assess the guiding significance of the detection of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D in the diagnosis and treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Methods A total of 1174 subjects with the main complain of osteoarthritis pain in the out-door department of orthopedics from June 2011 to October 2011 and from June 2012 to October 2012 were randomly recruited.Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D of the patients was examined using Roche Diagnostics kit. Results The mean age of 1174 patients was 53.61 ± 15.10 years. The mean 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration was 15.55 ng/ml.The patients with vitamin D deficiency ( <20 ng/ml) accounted for 48.12%(524 cases); including 26.35% (287 cases) with severe deficiency ( <10 ng/ml).The mean 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration tested in 2011 was 13.27 ng/ml ( reference value 11.10-42.90 ng/ml ) . The mean 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration tested in 2012 was 22.53 ng/ml ( reference value 20-32 ng/ml) .Conlusion Detection of serum vitamin D is of importance in the diagnosis and treatment of knee osteoarthritis. The reference of Roche Diagnostics kit of 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 used in this study is fluctuated, directly leading to the patient bias of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration in 2011 and 2012.
