Abstract: This paper analyzes an important notion of cohesion theory: grammatical cohesion. Grammatical cohesion falls into four categories: reference, substitution, ellipsis and conjunction. Then the paper probes in to the understanding and usage of each grammatical cohesive device and proposes three translation strategies.
