Abstract: Ruan Yuan,the renowned Qing Dynasty scholar,participated actively in local records compilation practices.This article,on the basis of combing through these local records,analyzes the nature of local records and local records compilation principles as raised by Ruan Yuan;explores the characteristics of Ruan Yuan’s local records thoughts,including those on inclusiveness of the history and geography studies,the checking and verification of reference materials,application of knowledge of universal significance and practical affairs,seeking truth from facts,and identifying and promoting talents;and aims for assisting the readers with a comprehensive understanding of Ruan Yuan’s important contributions towards local records compilation and sorting in future generations.
