Abstract: A fast alarm pointer recognition algorithm based on color region recognition has been proposed in this paper for the color instrument used in the electric monitoring system. The traditional line detection algorithms take use of Hough transformation,which ask for a large storage space and a long computation time. Combining the image color in-formation and Hough transformation creatively,whether the alarm signal should be outputted will be determined by i-dentifying the color of the region where the pointer lies,which will confirm the search range of the Hough transforma-tion algorithm for the accurate next identification. The required memory space and computation time will be reduced by shrinking the search range. Experiment results show a higher efficiency of the improved algorithm than that of the traditional algorithm.
