Abstract: The aim was to analyze association of CALCA gene polymorphisms with some economic traits in Zaosheng cattle and Zaosheng crossbred , and to evaluate it as a candidate molecular marker associated with beef quality.PCR-SSCP method was used to detect the genetic variation in CALCA gene in 362 cattle from 5 cattle groups ,including Zaosheng in Qingyang Prefecture , Zaosheng cattle in Pingliang Prefecture , Nanza ( South Devon cattle ×Qingyang groups),Qinza (Qinchuan cattle ×Pingliang groups),Xiza (Simmental ×Pingliang groups).The association between SNP locus and some carcass traits of Pingliang groups were analyzed .Two genotypes AA and AB were detected at exon 4 in CALCA gene .Analysis of association of polymorphism with carcass traits at mutation locus showed that there were significant effects on WBSF ,Ribeye area ,Hot carcass weight and Cooking loss ( P<0 .05 ) and there was no effect on other traits(P>0.05).In conclusion,SNP of CALCA gene could be a genetic mark for carcass trait.
