Abstract: Soil salinization is one of the most important bottlenecks for the sustainable development of agriculture in the Wuliangsuhai basin. Focusing on the spatial complexity and recurrence of soil saliniza-tion in Wuliangsuhai basin, this paper has collected layered samples from 0 cm to 30 cm from 20 repre-sentative sampling points according to the characteristics of vegetation there. The total salinity and pH of the soil were determined with the method of conductivity and potentiometry. Meanwhile, the spatial dis-tribution of soil salinity and pH in this researched area was obtained from the Surfer Software ( Kriging) . The results show that the soil salinity and pH have a remarkable tendency of gathering on the surface in the spatial distribution. What' s more, the soil salinization tends to decrease along with the deepening of soil layer. As a whole, the soil salinization is a rather serious problem in Wuliangsuhai basin. Apart from controlling salinity in spring, some other measures are needed, such as irrigation and the use of chemical modifier. 3figs. ,1tab. ,19refs.
