Abstract: The soil pH value and nutrient status of tea plantations in 5 main tea regions ,including Shihe , Pingqiao , Luoshan , Guangshan and Xinxian in Xinyang City ,were studied through field sampling and labora-tory analysis .The results showed that the pH value of Guangshan and Xinxian were better , while those of the others were not suitable for tea growth .The contents of organic matter were lower than the critical value (15 g/kg) in 63.3%of Shihe, 80.8% of Pingqiao, 65.8% of Luoshan, 88.5% of Guangshan and 51.9% of Xinxian tea plantations respectively .The total nitrogen content was appreciably low , and only 51 .9%planta-tions in Xinxian was relatively higher than the first grade criterion;in the other four regions , more than 50%tea plantations were lack of total nitrogen in soil .The available P content was relatively higher in Shihe , while those were deficiency in most of the tea plantations in the other 4 areas. The content of available K of 81.5%Luoshan plantations reached the first grade criterion , while that of the other areas were deficiency .The availa-ble K contents of Guangshan and Xinxian were serious deficiency ,and 75 .0%and 94 .2%plantations respec-tively had the available K content lower than the critical value .So most of the tea plantations in Xinyang City should pay more attention to improvement of soil pH value ,application of organic fertilizer , and the increase of phosphorus and potassium based on adequate application of nitrogen fertilizer .
