Abstract: It analyzed the water and sediment variation and characteristics of scouring and deposition from the year of 1986 to 2010 in Ningxia reach of the Yellow River and predicted the volume of scouring and sedimentation from the year of 2011 to 2020 by using a numerical model and the ob-served data. The results show that the annual average water volume is 250. 5 í 108 m3 and sediment is 0. 67 í 108 t. The water volume is 74. 8% of the natural state from the year of 1950 to 1968. As to the sediment,itˊs 34. 0% of the observed data;the predicted volume of scouring and sedimen-tation is 0. 079 7 í 108 m3 ,and the average thickness of sediment on the riverbed is 0. 013 m.
