Abstract: The paper measures the whole as well as the different economic type of farms′poverty status in rural Tianjin. We also do quantitative simulations to measure the subsidy effects on poverty reduction by the government. Results show that the general poverty issue in rural Tianjin still exists. Our results show that the poverty index in rural Tianjin first increased and then decreased.By calculating different type of poor people,we find the poverty head ratio, the poverty gap and the squared poverty gap of pure farming households are higher than the other three types, and the subsidy simulation shows that either increasing $300 or $500 has limited capacity on poverty alleviation, and the subsidy is more effective on the pure farming households. Though government increased the subsidy standards in the year of 2008,the poverty reduction effectiveness decreased because of CPI rising and other factors.
