Literature Analysis of 33 Cases of Liver Injury Induced by the Compound Preparation of Dioscorea bulbifera L.

Abstract: Objective:To study the clinical characteristics and the dangerous factors of liver injury induced by the compound preparation of Dioscorea bulbifera L. and to provide reference for rational use of the medicine accordingly. Methods:By searching Chinese Biomedical Database(CBM),Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform,Vip Jounal Integration Platform,Chinese Knowledge Resource Integrated Database and other Chinese journal databases with keywords Dioscorea bulbifera L.,liver injury/disease,etc. to collect data from the literature of liver injury induced by the compound preparation,with which statistical analysis was performed. Results:33 cases of liver injuries induced by the compound preparation of Dioscorea bulbifera L. were collected. 15patients(45. 45%) of the cases were male and 18(54. 55%) were female. The age ranges from 14 to 69with the average 51. 39 ± 12. 75 and 30patients(90. 91%) were aged,i. e. older than 45. The primary diseases were leukoderma(7cases,21.12%),chronic atrophic gastritis(7cases,21.12%),optimum benign prostatic hyperplasia(17 cases,51. 52%),esophagitis(1case,3. 03%),hyperthyroidism(1case,3. 03%); the medicines used were respectively Baishi Pill,Compound Huangyaozi Preparation,Longbishu Capsule,Zengshengping Pill,Zhaoyulong Yikang Pill. Duration of taking the medicines and getting the drug-induced diseases of 15 cases were traceable; the duration of taking the medicines ranges from20 to 180days(65. 87±39. 80) and the duration of getting the secondary diseases ranges from 20 to 180days(68. 47±39. 31). All patients followed their medical orders. 32 cases were chronic and 1case was sub-acute. The clinical manifestation mainly appeared to be gastrointestinal symptoms and the laboratory examination mainly showed abnormal liver function,ALT(546. 9 ±156. 28 U/L),AST(367. 25 ± 184. 79 U/L), ALP(209. 6 ± 93. 43 U/L), DBIL(109. 56 ± 93. 61μmol/L) and TBIL(164. 19 ±155. 8μmol/L). After drug withdrawal and symptomatic treatment,the liver function became normal and all patients were cured.Conclusion:Liver injury caused by the compound preparation of Dioscorea bulbifera L. has a high morbidity,so it should be used carefully in clinical treatment. Liver function of patients should be examined before the use of the medicine and once every four weeks after,in order to discover abnormal liver function early to apply proper treatment.
