Abstract: Objective To explore the MRI findings of acute injured medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) .Methods 36 cases of acute injured MPFL confirmed by MRI and clinic were retrospectively analysed .The focus was to observe the MRI features of MPFL injury and associated knee pathology .Results Tear of the MPFL at the femoral attachment oc-curred in 17/36 cases ,at the patellar attachment in 11/36 cases ,and at the mid-substance sites in 8/36 cases .Among 36 MPFL injuries ,there were 19 cases with contusion ,11 cases with partial tear ,6 cases with complete tear .Associated findings included subluxation of the patella (11 cases) ,dislaocation of patella (3 cases) ,bone contusion (25 cases) ,osteo-chondral fracture (8 cases) ,medial collateral ligament injury (16 cases) ,vastus medialis oblique injury (17 cases) ,menis-cus injury (15 cases) ,and joint effusion (36 cases) .Conclusion Transaxial MR examination is recommended to evaluate MPFL injury .MRI can clearly diagnose MPFL injury and accurately classify the damage .Associated knee injuries are sug-gestive signs in diagnosing acute M PFL injury .
