Study on acoustic emission tests for deep-buried tunnel rock excavation of JingpingⅡhydropower station by using TBM and drill-and-blast methods

Abstract: The TBM( Tunnel Boring Machine) and drilling-blasting methods are the two main excavation way for underground engineering. The different construction method will result the different disturbance surrounding rock range,the deformation and destruction characteristics,the self-stability and the supporting method. To accurately understand the macro-mechanical characteristics of surrounding rocks,it is necessary to research the micro-mechanical responses of surrounding rocks. Taking the deep-buried tunnel rock excavation of Jingping Ⅱhydropower station with the buried depth 2525 m as the study object,the acoustic emission tests to the marble surrounding rocks which are excavated respectively by TBM and drilling-blasting methods are carried out,and the construction mechanics responses of the surrounding rocks are analyzed.The following conclusions can be drawn from the tests. The marble failure is a macro reflection of the internal micro-cracks initiation and propagation,and acoustic emission signal is of the good correlation with the stress-strain curves. During the response period of the rock failure point,the stress-strain curves from the TBM method are rather flat around the peak strength,which means the strong deformation appears around the peak load but no macro destruction happens. Meanwhile,the acoustic emission ring number of the rock from the TBM method appears later than the response from the drilling-blasting method,and it is shown that the destruction resistant ablity of surrounding rock by TBM method is stranger.
