Abstract: Ligeia, one of the earlier short stories by American writer Edgar Allan Poe, is a weird story about“revival of my deceased wife”happening in a dark and gloomy scene. It shows the thrilling beauty of gothic horror stories. The brightness in horror plots is sought from a“contrast”point of view. It is found that“passionate love”,“strong will”and“mottled colors”not only add brightness to the story but also highlight the thrilling sense of“desperation after wife’s death”,“rebirth from the dead”and“weird surroundings”.
