Study on iron-carbon micro-electrolysis for pretreatment of quaternary ammonium production wastewater

Abstract: The QACs(quaternary ammonium compound)production wastewater was pretreated by iron-carbonmicro-electrolysis,the influences of different factors(such as iron powder-carbon powder mass ratio,original pH,reaction time and iron powder content)on removal rate of COD(chemical oxygen consumption)were discussed byorthogonal experiment. The research results showed that the influences of different factors on removal rate of CODwere iron powder-carbon powder mass ratio>iron powder content>reaction time>original pH. The removal rate ofCOD was relatively maximal(87.35%)when mass fraction of iron powder was 15% in water,original pH was 3,reaction time was 30 min,and iron powder-carbon powder mass ratio was 1∶2. The iron-carbon micro-electrolysiscould effectively remove QACs production wastewater,and could meet pretreatment requirement of subsequentbiological treatment.
