Abstract: The inhibitory activities of polysaccharides from Anoectochilus roxburghii (PSA) on α-glucosidase in vitro and the effects of PSA on blood glucose in diabetic mice were studied. The results indicated that PSA can inhibit the activity of α-glucosidase in vitro and the half inhibitory concentration (IC50) was 78.66 μg/mL. In addition,PSA inhibited the postprandial blood glucose obviously and the inhibition ratio was(53.65±13.65)%;The administration with PSA (300 mg/kg bw) for 14 days caused a significant decrease (P < 0.05) in blood glucose compared with the DM group. The results demonstrated that PSA possessed obvious hypoglycemic effect and its mechanism may relate to its effects on the activity of carbohydrate metabolic enzymes and inhibition of gluconeogenesis.
