Study on consolidation behavior of silty soil under coupling action of load and water level fluctuation

Abstract: The consolidation test is conducted using self-made device on silty soil under the coupling action of load and water level fluctuation.The changes of settlement,earth pressure and pore pressure are being monitored.As the consolidation steady,the combined determination test of permeability and consolidation is conducted on specimens.The deformation,strength and permeability of the silty soil under coupling action of load and water level fluctuation are analyzed.The test results show that the consolidation deformation of silty soil mainly occurred in the stage of the coupling action stage,and increases linearly with the increment of water discharge quantity;under the coupling action of load and water level fluctuation,the consolidation degree of silty soil increases,the void ratio reduces,the seepage properties decreases.The study result has valuable reference to forecast the land subsidence in the coastal cities.
