Abstract: Objective To observe the impact of different liquid injection volumes of double balloon urinary catheter on quality of general anesthesia recovery .Methods By using a double-blind method,180 adult male patients who were fully awaken after general anesthesia and were able to answer questions correctly as well as with an obvious symptoms of urinary tract irritation were selected .The patients were inserted with a 16 F double-lumen balloon urinary catheter and randomly divided into three groups:group A injected with 5 ml,group B 8 ml and group C 15 ml of physiological saline .Mean arterial pressure ( MAP) ) and heart rate ( HR) were measured 10 and 20 min later. At the same time, anesthesia recovery quality and comfort were assessed by a visual analogue scale .Results The MAP and HR in the group C were increased ( P<0.05 ) during the anesthesia recovery period .The urethral unwell feeling score in the group A was lower than that in the group B .The group B was in turn lower than the group C ( P<0.01 ) .The number of patients who needed analgesic drug decreased significantly in the group A .Conclusion In adult male patients with double-lumen balloon urinary catheter, the injection volume of 5 ml is the most appropriate that can reduce symptoms of urinary tract irritation and increase the quality of general anesthesia recovery .
