Chemical Constituents of the Inflorescence of Scabiosa comosa Fisoh and Their Antioxide andα-Glucosidase Inhibitory Activities

Abstract: The inflorescence of Scabiosa comosa Fisohis a traditional Mongolian medicine used for liver diseases.The present research was carried out to investigate the bioactive constituents of this traditional medicine.Ten compounds,including 7 phenolics,2 triterpenes and 1 sterol were isolated and identified.Their structures were determined by interpretation of UV,MS and NMR spectral data and by comparison with standard compounds.Apigenin-4′-O-β-glucoside,apigenin-7-O-α-arabino(1-6)-β-glucoside and 3β,23-dihydroxyursan-12-en-28-oic acid were isolated and identified fromScabios genus for the first time.The radical scavenging activity on 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)and inhibitory activity onα-glucosidase were measured.The phenolic compounds,luteolin,luteolin-7-0 β-glycoside and chlorogenic acid showed potent radical scavenging activity,with their EC50 values being 19,43 and 26μg·mL-1,respectively.A flavonoid aglycone,apigenin,and both of the triterpene compounds,ursolic acid and 3β,23-dihydroxyursan-12-en-28-oic acid showed inhibitory activity onα-glucosidase.It was reported that plants with high antioxide capacity may decrease hepatic and systemic inflammation.α-Glucosidase is essential for the processing and folding of the envelope glycoprotein in HCV,and thus are regarded as a promising target for developing antiHCV agents.The present findings that some of the phenolic compounds and triterpenes from the inflorescence of Scabiosa showed antioxidant andα-glucosidase inhibitory activity to suggest that these chemical constituents may be the bioactive compounds of this herbal medicine for liver diseases.
