Development and preliminary evaluation of psycho-social environment of school( PSES)

Abstract: Objective To develop Questionnaire of Psycho-social Environment of School( PSES) Teacher Version which is suitable to Chinese situation and to provide scientific basis for promoting mental health of students. Methods According to a standard procedure,the items of the questionnaire for PSES were developed through literature review,expert consultation and relevant qualitative research. A total of 219 teachers from Beijing and Shaanxi completed the preliminary PSES questionnaire. Reliability and validity was evaluated. Results The PSES was classified into three dimensions by exploratory factor analysis. The final PSES questionnaire was composed of 17 items. The test-retest correlation coefficient,Cronbach’s α coefficient and split-half reliability coefficient of the PSES was 0. 872,0. 813 and 0. 761,respectively. The cumulative percentage of the item was 48. 194%. Conclusion PSES questionnaire has a good reliability,however it still needs to be further applied and examined in future studies.
