Comparison of the causes between deaths due to non-silicosis and silicosis in a company

Abstract: Objective To explore the progress of silicosis and its outcome,and compare difference of deaths from non-silicosis and silicosis.Methods 1718 retired workers in Zhejiang Dongfeng Fluorite Group Co.Ltd.were selected during the period between 1994 and 2012,and divided into non-silicosis group and sili-cosis patients group.The mortality rate,average death age and main cause of death were analyzed for the two groups.Results Totally there were 545 deaths.The mortality and death age in these two groups increased slowly with ages.The mortality from silicosis increased more significantly,but the death age were not statisti-cally significant (P>0.05).The leading cause of deaths was malignancy for no-silicosis l group,and respira-tory diseases for silicosis.Conclusions Lung disease related to silicosis is the leading cause of deaths.The study demonstrates the effect from secondary and tertiary preventions,which will provide guidance for the fu-ture work of prevention and control of silicosis.
