Abstract: On September 5, 2012, a disease outbreak was occurred at a tilapia farm in Liuzhou , Guangxi.Aγ-hemolyt-ic gram-positive streptococcus was isolated from brain of infected tilapia .The isolate was identified as rare Streptococcus agalactiae by biochemical assays, PCR identify and 16S rDNA analysis. The strain was γ-hemolytic and negative in CAMP test which showed it was different from normal Streptococcus agalactia strains. The isolate exhibited high virulence to tilapia by experimental infection .Drug sensitivity experiment showed that it was resistant to norfloxacin , polymyxin B , co-trimoxazole and sensitive to 17 types of antibiotics such as penicillin G , et al.
