Abstract: The effects of low light and suboptimal temperature on growth and antioxidant enzyme activi-ties of cucumber seedlings were studied with eight cucumber varieties as experiment materials .The results showed that Jinyou 5 , Jinyou 1 , Woyou 2 and Jinyou 35 grew better after treated for 14 days under low light and suboptimal temperature;compared with optimal temperature , the increase of electrolyte leakage of the four varieties was smaller , while those of soluble protein content and antioxidant enzyme activities were larger , and the content of chlorophyll ( a+b) decreased a little .All these indicated that the adaptability of the four varie-ties to suboptimal temperature under low light condition was superior to the others , so they were suitable for cultivation in solar greenhouse in winter of northern China .
