Abstract: The palygorskite/poly (ethylene glycol )/acrylic acid (PGS/PEG/AA ) hydrogel is prepared in aqueous solution by glow-discharge electrolysis plasma induced graft copolymerization , in which N ,N′-methylenebisacrylamide (MBA ) is used as a crosslinker . To optimize the synthesis conditions , the following parameters are examined in detail : discharge voltage and discharge time . The influences of various pH values and salts solutions on the equilibrium swelling ratio , and reversible swelling-deswelling behavior are studied . In addition , adsorption behavior of hydrogel for cationic dyes is preliminarily investigated . The results show that the hydrogel is responsive to the pH and salts and it has excellent reversible swelling-deswelling behavior . In addition , the hydrogel has higher adsorption capacities for cationic dyes .
