Abstract: Objective To investigate the clinical features of brainstem encephalitis and treatment for the prognosis. Methods 50 cases with brainstem encephalitis admitted in our hospital from January, 2010 to January, 2013 were selected, and imaging examination was performed in the patients and the clinical analysis was carried out. The clinical features of brainstem encephalitis and the treatment for the prognosis were summarized. Results Obvious brain lesions were showed by the imaging of the patients with brain stem encephalitis, and brain abnormalities were found by neurophysiological examination and lumbar puncture. Through timely treatment, 15 cases were cured, accounting for 30%; improvement in 34 cases, accounting for 68.0%, ineffectiveness in 1 case, accounting for 2.0%, the clinical total effective rate was 98.0%. The clinical treatment effective rate of the two groups of patients had statistically significance (P<0.05). Conclusion The etiology of brainstem encephalitis is unknown, presumably due to autoimmune damage after virus infection, timely treatment can improve the prognosis of the patients.
