Abstract: A novel type of capacitively-coupled electric field sensorwas developed to monitor on-line the variations in pressure of the vacuum interrupter with high precision.The impact of the inserted capacitively-coupled electric field sensor on the field distribution around the arc-discharge area in a vacuum interrupter,especially the distance between them,on the electric field distribution of the latter was empirically simplified,mathematically modeled,and numerically simulated.The simulated results showthatinstalled at a safe distance ranging from50 to 70 mm,the negative influence of the inserted sensor on the electric field distribution and precision of the measured pressure of the arc discharge vacuum interrupter could be minimized.We suggestthatthe simulated resultsbe ofmuch technological interestforlong-termoperation safety of the vacuum circuit breaker.
