DESIGN AND OPTIMIZATION OF MOLD TAPER ROUND BILLET IN CONTINUOUS CASTING

Abstract: Based on axial symmetry of round billet and genetic characteristics of stress in the solidified shell,a two-dimensional longitudinally slice of thermo-mechanical model coupled was established. Heat transfer and stress analysis on the strand in mould was completed by ANSYS. According to the contraction of solidified shell and the distribution of gap in the mold,the mold taper was optimized with principle of minimum air gap. After three optimization calculations,we get mold taper curve of Q195 steel round billet. The shape of optimized round billet mold cavity was parabolic,and total taper was 1. 88 % / m. In the analysis conditions,the maximum air gap was reduced to 0. 021 mm.
