Abstract: The eigenstate polyaniline (PANI) was prepared by chemical oxidation method using aniline monomer as raw material and ammonium persulfate as oxidant, and then mixed with nano-CaCO3 in solution to prepare a PANI/CaCO3 composite. The morphology and structure of the polyaniline/CaCO3 composite were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy, and infrared (IR) spectroscopy. The epoxy (EP)/PANI and EP/PANI/CaCO3 composite coatings were prepared on the surface of carbon steel by adding PANI and PANI/CaCO3 as filler respectively to epoxy resin with polyamide curing agent. The corrosion behaviors of the carbon steel uncoated and coated with EP, EP/PANI, and EP/PANI/CaCO3 coatings respectively in 3.5% NaCl solution for different time were comparatively studied by electrochemical methods such as open circuit potential measurement, polarization curve measurement, and alternating current impedance spectroscopy. The results indicated that the surface of CaCO3 nano particles is well coated by PANI film. The addition of nano-CaCO3 improves the compactness of coating and the adhesion of PANI molecular to metal substrate. The epoxy coating containing PANI/CaCO3 composite has the best anticorrosion performance, followed by the EP/PANI coating. The EP/PANI/CaCO3 composite coating has a corrosion potential shifted positively by 59 mV, and a corrosion current density decreased by 63%as compared with the EP/PANI coating.
