Abstract: The spatio-temporal distribution characteristics of alkaline phosphatase activity( APA) in Baiyangdian Lake and its impact factors were analyzed by sampling in eight national monitoring sites from 2011 to 2012. The results showed that APA in Baiyangdian Lake exhibited seasonal and regional variations. APA peaked in summer or autumn and reached minimum in winter, and was higher in eutrophicated sampling sites. Correlative analysis indicated that APA in water was significantly negatively correlated with ammonia nitrogen and phosphorus- nitrogen ratio( p < 0. 05),and significantly positively correlated with temperature, phytoplankton cell density and total phosphorus( p < 0. 01). This implied that phytoplankton density could be a main factor affecting APA in water. APA in sediment was probably closely related to the metabolism of microorganisms, and significantly correlated with total phosphorus in sediment( p < 0. 05). APA in water and sediment were consistent with eutrophication degree, which could be used as an indicator for eutrophication status of Baiyangdian Lake.
