Abstract: Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of dog-day acupoint application plus pulmonary rehabilitation in treating cough variant asthma. Method Totally 120 patients with cough variant asthma were randomized into group A, group B, and group C, 40 each. Group A was intervened by dog-day acupoint application and pulmonary rehabilitation, group B was by dog-day acupoint application, and group C was by pulmonary rehabilitation alone. After a treatment course, the therapeutic efficacy was evaluated in the three groups. Result The total effective rate was 97.5% in group A, versus 87.5% in group B and 50.0% in group C, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.01). The global symptom scores were markedly changed in the three groups after treatment(P<0.05). Group A was significantly different from group B and group C in comparing the global symptom score after treatment(P<0.01). Group A was significantly better than group B and group C in comparing relief time and remission time(P<0.01). After treatment, group A had marked changes in blood gas analysis, pulmonary function, and respiratory muscle fatigue index(P<0.05), and the results were better than those in group B and group C(both P<0.01). The relapse rate was 5.0% in group A, versus 25.0% in group B and 52.5% in group C, showing that the relapse rate in group A was significantly lower than that in group B and group C(both P<0.01). Conclusion Dog-day acupoint application plus pulmonary rehabilitation is an effective method in treating cough variant asthma.
