Effect of Interference Fit on Fatigue Life of Fasten Holes Without Load Transfer

Abstract: The effects of rivet interference fit on the fatigue life of countersunk fastener hole were investigated by both experiment and numerical simulation. Combing finite element results(FE), the multi-axial fatigue method was employed to analyze the damage parameters of countersunk fastener holes with different interference fit level and the influence of interference fit level on fatigue damage parameters were explored. The results show that the fatigue life of interference-fit of 1% riveting increases by about 15% compared with that of conventional riveting. The FE results show that the interference fit reduces cyclic stress amplitude and strain amplitude, and the fatigue damage parameter decreases.
