Preparation and Characterization of Porous Titanium Scaffolds as Hard Tissue Substitute

Abstract: In order to meet the requirements of hard tissue substitute,the Granulating Loose Pack Sintering Method(GLPS) was used to fabricate porous titanium scaffolds in the base of traditional Loose Pack Sintering method(LPS), and was expected to obtain a more biocompatible titanium scaffolds with bimodal porous structure. The results show that the porous titanium scaffolds prepared by LPS has a lower porosity and a single single-sized porous structure, however, the porous titanium scaffolds with a porosity ranges from 60% to 80% were successfully fabricated using granulating loose pack sintering method, which mainly contains two types of pores: macro-pores between the granules and micro-pores on and inside of the cell walls. Furthermore, the results of mechanical property and chemistry composition show that the scaffold can completely satisfy the requirement of hard tissue substitute.
