Effects of Rolling Deformation on Microstructure and Properties of Mg-12Li-3Gd-3Y-0.6 Zr Alloy

Abstract: New kinds of Mg-12Li-3Gd-3Y-0.6Zr alloys were prepared in vacuum condition under the protection of argon atmosphere. The effects of rolling deformation on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the alloy were studied by optical microscopy, SEM, XRD and tensile test. The results show that with the increase of rolling deformation, the small and diffused Mg2Gd phase precipitates more while β-Li phase significantly reduces. The tensile strength and elongation improve remarkably. After 40%, 60% and 80% deformation, the tensile strength of the sample is 134 MPa, 141 MPa and 153 MPa. The elongation of the sample is 25%, 29% and 33%, respectively.
