Research on Effect of Thermal Oxidation on Hardness of TA18 Titanium Alloy

Abstract: Taking TA18 titanium alloy as research material, it was treated by thermal oxidation at different temperatures(500 ℃-850 ℃) for 210 min in box type resistance furnace. Also, the effects of thermal oxidation time on hardness of TA18 titanium alloy by thermal oxidative treatment at the same temperature(700 ℃) for different time(60 min-600 min) were studied. The results show that 800 ℃ is the boundary of the thermal oxidation for TA18. Below the temperature, the hardness increases with the rise of temperature. Above the temperature, the hardness declines with the increase of temperature. The influence of thermal oxidation parameters to section hardness is not obvious.
