Effects of Sr and Cr on Mechanical Properties of A356 Alloys

Abstract: The effects of Sr(mass fraction of 0% or 0.12%) and Cr(mass fraction of 0%, 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6% and 0.8%)on the mechanical properties of A356 alloys containing 1.2%Fe were studied by using universal material testing machine. The results show that: either separately added Cr(wsr=0) or the complex adding of Sr(wsr=0.12%) and Cr, both tensile strength and elongation of A356 alloy containing 1.2%Fe exhibit the tendency of first rise and then decrease with increasing the content of Cr. Complex adding of Sr and Cr can significantly improve the mechanical properties of the alloy than adding Cr alone. After T6 heat treatment(solution 540℃, 8h+aging 145℃, 8h), the tensile strength and elongation of the alloy greatly improve.
